What is the PlayStation Camera adapter and what does it do?

The PlayStation Camera adapter is used to connect the PlayStation®Camera* (sold for the PlayStation®4 console) to the PlayStation®5 console.

This allows using PlayStation®VR when playing supported PS4™ games on PS5™ consoles, including games that require PlayStation®Move or PlayStation®VR target controllers.

Please note: The new HD camera for PS5 is incompatible with PS VR. To use PS VR on PS5, you need to use PS Camera (for PS4) with a PlayStation Camera adapter (no purchase required).

Who qualifies for a PlayStation Camera adapter?

Anyone who owns a PS VR headset is eligible for a PlayStation Camera adapter, with a limit of one adapter per family.

What information do I need to provide to make a request?

This information varies by region, but be prepared to provide your PS VR processor unit’s serial number, first name, last name, email address, shipping address, and phone number. Look at the back panel of the PS VR processor unit to find the serial number. It starts with the letter C, M, or P depending on the region.

Why is my serial number not accepted in the web form?

Make sure you get the serial number from the PS VR processor unit. The serial number starts with the letter C, M, or P. If you still cannot use your serial number, please contact PlayStation Support for additional troubleshooting steps.

What should I do if I can’t find my country in the drop-down list on the web form?

If you cannot find your country in the drop-down list, please contact your local distributor or dealer for support. Contact information is listed in the support information section of your PS VR manual.

Are PlayStation®VR games backward compatible?

Yes, like thousands of PlayStation®4 games, PlayStation VR games are playable on PlayStation®5. Playing PS VR games on a PS5™ console requires a PS VR headset,

PlayStation®Camera* for PS4™, and PlayStation®Camera adapter (no purchase required). Visit playstation.com/camera-adaptor for details ).

For the best PS VR experience on PS5, we recommend using the DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller. Certain games may require PlayStation®Move motion controllers or compatibility with the PlayStation®VR target controller.

The new HD camera for PS5 is not compatible with PS VR. PS VR headset, PS Camera, DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller, PS Move controllers, and PS VR target controller are all sold separately from PS5.

Warranty and Troubleshooting

What is the warranty of the PlayStation Camera adapter?

This product is covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for 12 months from the date of delivery. For details, refer to the warranty statement that came with your PS VR or, if you requested the PlayStation Camera adapter separately, the warranty that came with the adapter.

How do I connect the PlayStation Camera to my PS5 console via the PlayStation Camera adapter?

  1. Connect the PlayStation Camera adapter to the USB Type-A port on the back of your PS5 console. The PlayStation Camera adapter cannot be used with the PS4 console.
  2. Connect the PlayStation Camera to the AUX port on the PlayStation Camera adapter.
